The Automata Room is the gallery’s cabinet of curiosities. Everything in it has been made by someone: clockwork wings, wax studios, glass animals, ribbon theatres, bookbinders’ presses and projectors that shrink whole worlds to the size of a tabletop.
These are the most mechanical works in the building, in both senses. The artwork is full of gears and hinges, and the games themselves lean towards features that shift, expand and transform the reels.
It rewards close looking. Many of the covers hide tiny moving parts at the edges of the frame.
