Every term, in plain English.
The words you will meet on wall labels, in the rules panels and around the gallery.
B
- Bet step
- One of the fixed amounts of Play Credits a game lets you use for a round. Each wall label shows the range.
- Brushwork
- Stolave’s name for volatility: gentle wash (low), steady hand (medium) and bold strokes (high or very high).
C
- Cascade
- A feature where winning symbols are removed and new ones fall into their places, allowing chains of results in one round.
- Close Looking
- The gallery game on the home page: name a work from a magnified detail as it pulls back.
- Cluster
- A group of matching symbols that touch horizontally or vertically. Cluster games count groups instead of lines.
- Collection
- Your personal list of works, saved to your account when signed in or to this browser as a guest. Add or remove works with the Collect button.
D
- Doodle Curator
- The easel on the home page. It reads the paint, pace and shapes of a sketch and suggests a matching game.
E
- Expanding symbol
- A symbol that grows to fill its whole reel during a feature.
F
- Free spins
- A series of rounds that use no further Play Credits, often with a rising multiplier.
H
- Hold
- A feature where special symbols stay locked while the other positions re-spin. Also called sticky.
L
- Line
- A path across the reels along which matching symbols produce a result. Also called a payline.
M
- Multiplier
- A number that scales the size of a result already decided by the server.
- Mystery symbol
- A symbol that transforms, together with every other mystery symbol, into the same revealed symbol.
P
- Pick feature
- A feature that asks you to choose an object on screen before revealing the recorded result behind it.
- Play Credits
- The fictional currency used on Stolave. It has no monetary value and cannot be bought, transferred or redeemed.
- Player Care
- The page where you can start an enforced account break and find independent support.
R
- Reel
- One column of symbols in a game. Most works in the collection use five.
- Room
- One of the six galleries that group works by subject.
- Round
- One spin of a game, decided and recorded by the server before the animation plays it out.
S
- Scatter
- A special symbol that counts wherever it lands and usually opens a feature.
- Session reminder
- An optional note that appears every 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes suggesting a break.
T
- Technique
- Stolave’s name for a game’s main feature family.
V
- Volatility
- The rhythm of a game: how often and how large its moments tend to be. Not a prediction of results.
W
- Wall label
- The card beside every work, and the page it links to, describing the game.
- Wild
- A symbol that can stand in for other symbols to complete a combination.
