Antiquities is a room of old stories: temples on the Nile, a thundering Zeus, dragons curled around their hoards, frontier gulches and expeditions with maps that are never quite accurate.
It is the most dramatic room in the gallery. Colours are hot — terracotta, sand, lightning white — and the works favour big moments over small ones, so you will find a good share of bold brushwork here.
