Volatility is rhythm, not luck

Why we describe games as gentle, steady or bold — and what that does and does not mean.

Every game in the collection carries a volatility rating from the original catalogue: low, medium, high or very high. We translate those into three kinds of brushwork — a gentle wash, a steady hand and bold strokes — because the word most people reach for, luck, gets it wrong.

What volatility describes

Volatility is about the shape of a game over time. A gentle game tends to produce small moments often. A bold game tends to have quieter stretches broken up by occasional bigger ones. Two games can feel completely different to play while being built with the same care.

What it does not describe

It does not tell you what will happen next. Each round is decided independently by the server, and nothing you did in the previous round changes the next one. A bold game is not ‘due’ a big moment, and a gentle one does not get less generous because you have played it for a while.

Pick a brushwork for the evening you want, not the result you want.

Choosing by mood

If you want something to keep you company while you think about other things, a gentle wash is a good choice. If you enjoy anticipation, bold strokes build more of it. The steady hand sits between the two and is the largest group in the gallery.

Whichever you choose, Play Credits are fictional and there are no prizes of value. If you find yourself playing for longer than you meant to, the session reminder in your profile is there to help.
